Abstract

With coming of the Abbasids to the throne and the presence of Iranians in the administrative structure of their government, the grounds were set for a cultural-literary movement. Iranian works of thought were of the highest place among those affecting Arabic language and culture in the age of literary and social modernization. Reflection of Persian culture in the poetry of figures like Abu Navas, Ibn-e Roumi, and Ibn-e Motaz is a turning point in Arabic literature. Love songs and drinking wine are among the recurring themes in the poetry of Arab poets to convey Iranian culture. Influenced by Iranian Sassanid kings, love of luxury spread among Abbasids, and this was reflected well in the poets of the second phase of the Abbasid era, especially Ibn-e Motaz. Because of their positive qualities, ancient Iranian ceremonies found their way into Abbasid and Omavid courts. Knowing Iranian culture and tradition asserted such a distinction on Arab poets that resulted in the high standing place for Iranian culture among those affecting Arabic language and culture.
