"Manifestation" in Hafez's Poetry and Its Relation to Mazdaist Worldview and Islamic Teachings

Abstract

The intellectual and epistemological system of Hafez's poetry has emerged from the intellectual and cultural aspects of Iranian society and its various historical and civilizational stages. One of these aspects that Hafez used in creating his poems is "manifestation". Hafez is one of the few poets, who has introduced this concept in an extended way in his poetry collection and has placed its manifestations at the service of the sensory and mental space of his poems. Meanwhile, "manifestation" in Hafez's poetry and its relation to Mazdaist Worldview and Islamic teachings is a controversial issue that has been rarely addressed. Therefore, this paper has focused on the concept of "manifestation" in Hafez's poetry and its relation to the Mazdaist worldview and Islamic worldview using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings indicate that: manifestation in Hafez's poetry, influenced by Islamic and mystical teachings, in the forms of scientific or intrinsic manifestation, such as: Realm of Alast, fixed objects and existential manifestation - including the manifestation of the essence of God in the levels of existence, nature and creatures - has emerged and manifested in a close connection with the Mazdaite worldview and concepts and examplars such as: description of the Foruhars to Minoan World, the subjectivity of having a covenant in the Avesta. This is something that knowing its background and semantic capacities, Hafez has recorded the convergence and coexistence of the Iranian and Islamic worldviews in a lasting and delicate way in his poems.
