cities always face problems in their development process that result from a lack of attention to the past. Identity, which is considered an inseparable part of the urban structure and is defined with it, has faded in the development process of cities today and has disappeared in some places.given that some historical neighborhoods in Kerman are being destroyed and some are changing towards becoming new and have distanced themselves from their past nature, addressing the issue of identity becomes more prominent; therefore, these questions are raised: 1. How is the issue of the value and historical-physical identity of neighborhoods under destruction defined and revised? 2. What is the relationship between the identity and the physical structure of the neighborhood? The aim of this research is to define the concept of identity using Foucault's genealogical method, which is in the face of the erosion and destruction of the historical neighborhoods of Golbaz Khan, Khajeh Khezr, and Shah Adel.The research is descriptive-analytical and comparative, and information was collected through documentation and fieldwork.Physical changes and factors such as migration of people that arise following these changes also construct identity; because human perception of identity is carried out by the body and the material environment, and due to physical changes, these neighborhoods are known and defined by their past identity that remains in the minds. In fact, the identity and value of historical neighborhoods are in the form of a mental phenomenon, and only the immaterial dimension of identity always remains constant.
