[English]

This study examines the fatalistic perspective of the author in the epic-historical work Shahnshah-nama. The text reconstructs the history of the Qajar era and interprets destiny as a decisive principle governing victory, defeat, death, and divine luminosity (Farrah Izadi). The research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing content analysis of library sources, historical evidence, and related literary, theological, and philosophical materials.

The findings reveal that, through the lens of both religious doctrines and ancient Iranian traditions, the author conceives fate as divine will—an inevitable and preordained force that restricts rational agency and overrides human endeavor.

An examination of the poetic corpus demonstrates that, within the philosophical domain, the author exhibits a particular inclination toward Avicenna’s concept of the Best Possible Order (Nizam al-Ahsan). His interpretation of destiny further displays affinities with Ash‘arite theology, while—drawing inspiration from Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh—he formulates an independent and philosophico-theological stance on fate.

Moreover, the study argues that fatalism, beyond its metaphysical and philosophical functions, also serves to legitimize the political authority of the Qajar dynasty. Ultimately, this research underscores the synergistic integration of religious, philosophical, and epic elements in the formation of Iranian political literature.
